When will we see the change? Every student-centred change we make like this one, empowers our students towards success. The relationship between the WAM and honours levels is set out in section See the Awarding degrees with honours or pass with distinction policy, which has been rescinded effective 31 December RMIT adopted the WAM as a more precise way of calculating honours levels for bachelor honours degrees in February , when the Program design procedure was approved by Academic Board.
This provision of the procedure takes effect for students who commence their study in an honours program from 1 January onwards. From mid, if you are a bachelor honours student your WAM will be included in your Academic History, which you can access via Enrolment Online, or on request from your school.
Please note, however, that in double degree programs made up of two bachelor honours degrees, a separate WAM for each component single honours degree will be calculated manually after you complete the program. The Academic History WAM is not a reliable guide to your performance in the component single honours degrees, as it includes all the WAM courses for both component single honours degrees.
Employers and other education institutions expect to see a GPA. The WAM will only be used instead of the whole-program GPA for calculation of the award honours level for students who commenced study in their bachelor honours program on or after 1 January If you are a bachelor honours student who commenced study in your program on or after 1 January , your WAM will be visible in your Academic History, which may be viewed by staff responsible for supporting you in your studies.
This is assuming you only had one assignment out of in each unit in one semester. That gives you a WAM of The second mark - the one with the single digit number - is also given the same process, in this case giving you a GPA of 5.
Your WAM is a calculation of your raw mark in each piece of assessment, which gives the average mark you get across the board. The GPA is a broader, less detailed version of your performance. For me for example, I have a GPA of 5. Which blows. But due to me missing out on a HD in one of my units by a measly one mark because of useless group members, I missed that GPA of 6. How I came up with that is that your GPA is based on that raw mark i. As to your second question, it depends on the university.
Grade point average and weighted average mark. GPA formula The GPA is calculated using a formula based on two dimensions: a grade point for each subject grade, and subject credit points. All GPA values are between the range of 0. WAM is the average mark achieved across all completed subjects in an award course.
