The first time, she merely thanks him. The next time, she will mention the trip caused her to come down with an illness. During this conversation, Shepard needs to ask Tali about life in her suit. Tali will describe the experience and tell Shepard the most intimate way quarians express trust and intimacy comes from linking suit environments.
She admits she would only want to link suits with him. Here, players should choose the I trust you too dialogue option. In the next wheel, they can ask if she is making a pass at him, but need to pick I'm interested to officially begin the romance arc. The next time Shepard talks to Tali, he can progress the romance by asking to talk about her.
In the resulting cutscene in the Normandy's Core, players must choose No, you weren't to reassure her. They can ask the two questions in the next dialogue wheel but should eventually select I want to be with you.
She will promise to do some research to figure out how to make a physical relationship work. The next time Shepard talks with Mordin Solus , the professor will also offer advice about human-quarian romance, as he does with any alien Shepard chooses to romance. While not required, this scene can be a humorous look into the ways others on the squad see the budding relationship.
If Shepard chooses to recruit Legion and complete their Loyalty mission, they will return to the Normandy to find Tali and Legion in a heated argument. If he does need to take sides, he must side with Tali. In Mass Effect 1 , Shepard can discover that she's not used to such a quiet vessel, which usually means something's wrong on a quarian ship.
As soon as the first game, Tali will faithfully fight by Shepard's side and provides the team with important intel along the way. Though Tali may leave Shepard's command at the end of Mass Effect 1 , she returns in 2, this time, as a love interest only for male Commander Shepard. Some might find it unfortunate that Tali can't be romanced in Mass Effect 1 , but if they continue on with the trilogy, her story arc is rewarding.
Tali returns in Mass Effect 2 having completed her pilgrimage, meaning she's a young adult who's proven her worth aboard the Normandy. Tali is the first former squad member Shepard will be asked to recruit in a dossier. Make sure that you reciprocate and let her know that you feel the same way about her. When given the option, tell her that you want to be with her and not anyone else. Continue to visit her after each mission, and reciprocate her advances as you build your relationship.
If you did not choose Tali in 2, she will not be an option in 3. You will eventually meet back up and recruit Tali into your party and will be given the opportunity to invite her to your private quarters.
Tali will of course need some time to figure out how to make it happen considering her weak immune system. Of course, if you've been courting either Jack or Miranda, Tali will first bring this up with you and ask where you stand. If you want to be with Tali, you'll need to tell her so by picking "I only want you". Do that, and you can start Stage 2 properly. The third stage is the confirmation stage, begun by picking "I want to talk about you".
Your options after it are a bit confusing, because the option to continue is in the middle , as "Only if it's safe". The other two, "No. It's too dangerous" and "No. The mission comes first", are at the top and bottom slots. There is one final obstacle you may have to pass before the big Romance scene. If you decided to activate Legion and then complete his Loyalty Mission along with Tali's, then the next time you board the Normandy you'll be informed of the two getting in a confrontation.
Here, you must decide how to resolve the argument. If you have a high amount of Paragon or Renegade points, you can pick either the Charm or Intimidate option to tell both of them to drop it without losing their Loyalty or jeopardizing your Romance with Tali.
If you can't pick either of them, things become more difficult as you must side with either Legion or Tali. This is because while you can patch things up with the person you told to stand down afterwards, doing so with Tali will NOT restore the Romance.
In other words, if you pick "Back off, Tali", the Romance will be permanently ceased.
